In the book Beowulf, the hero Beowulf defeats the evil monster Grendel and subsequently becomes the king. I raise a question about his kingship - if a soldier defends his country in a war, does that entitle him to rule the country? For example, if Captain America or any of the Avengers saved the galaxy from Thanos, should they then claim ownership of the galaxy?
Beowulf, a military leader commanding an army, aids a friend in another country in vanquishing a troublesome monster. To uphold honor, he must defeat the monster bare-handed and later slay Grendel's mother using a magical sword.
Subsequently, Beowulf assumes control of the kingdom, which may not make him an ideal ruler as he lacks administrative skills and knowledge. Being a skilled military leader, the best course of action would have been to appoint him as a general.
